AFA Fellow Richard Thaler receives 2017 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences

Congratulations to AFA Fellow Richard Thaler on his receipt of the 2017 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
Richard Thaler is a pioneer in the fields of behavioral economics and behavioral finance. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, in announcing the prize, explained that "Thaler has incorporated psychologically realistic assumptions into analyses of economic decision-making ... he has shown how these human traits systematically affect individual decisions as well as market outcomes." The committee cites three of Thaler’s publications in the Journal of Finance in its Scientific Background Document:
