NEW! In Memoriam M. Chapman "Chap" Findlay died June 17, 2008 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 63. During the course of his academic career, Chap served as a faculty member at the University of Houston (1968 - 1971), the University of Connecticut (1971 - 1972), McGill University (1972 - 1974), and the University of Southern California (1974 - 1982), where he also served terms as chair of the department and as executive director of the Center for the Study of Financial Institutions. Chap Findlay was a prolific scholar with roughly 100 articles and books on financial management and analysis, financial theory, investment and capital markets, real estate and mortgage markets, insurance and pension issues, accounting issues, and legal issues. Nominate a doctoral student for an AFA Travel Grant This year the Association will offer up to 120 travel grants of $1500 each to doctoral students to help defray the costs of attending our Annual Meeting to be held in San Francisco January 3-5, 2009. Any bone fide faculty member who is also a regular AFA member at any US or foreign college or university with an accredited doctoral program in finance or financial economics (both at schools of business and in economics departments) is invited to nominate one student to be considered for this award. The nominated student's resume should be sent with a nominating letter from an AFA member to the Association's current Vice President (Professor John H. NEW!  JSTOR 10th Anniversary This year marks the 10th anniversary of the collaboration between the Association and JSTOR. This partnership with JSTOR has been very useful to scholars in our field. We take this occasion to remind members that they have seamless search access to all recent and back issues of the Journal of Finance from this web site through the link to JSTOR incorporated in the search and browse functions in the righthand column of this page.

Education Initiative

The Board of Directors has appointed a task force consisting of Mark Grinblatt and John Campbell to consider ways in which the Association might expand its educational mission by providing financial support and expertise to efforts to enhance education in finance for K-12 students, non-business undergraduates, and the general public. AFA members with interest in this broader educational mission should contact Mark Grinblatt (mark.grinblatt@anderson.ucla.edu).

Worldwide Directory of Finance Faculty: The AFA and the Department of Finance at Ohio State University have entered into a joint venture to maintain and enhance the finance faculty directory held on the OSU web site. At present, information on over 3,000 finance professors and professionals is available in the directory. An effort is being made to include all AFA members on this list and members are encouraged to provide information to the directory manager.
