Fischer Black Award
Date Posted: January 07, 2013
The American Finance Association’s Fischer Black Prize Committee consisting of Campbell Harvey, Paola Sapienza, William Schwert, Laura Starks, and Raghuram Rajan (chair) has selected Professor Ulrike Malmendier of the University of California, Berkeley, as the recipient of the 2013 Fischer Black Prize. The prize is awarded to the person under 40 whose work best exemplifies the Fischer Black hallmark of developing original research that is relevant to finance practice. Professor Malmendier’s work, spanning corporate finance, behavioral economics and finance, contract theory, and the history of the corporation, meets this high standard. While there were a number of excellent candidates for the prize, the committee was especially impressed with the originality and creativity of her papers, traits that Fischer Black was well known for.
