William Paterson University seeks an experienced, highly skilled individual to serve as the University’s Chief Accounting Officer and key member of the Administration and Finance Division management team as its next Associate Vice President – Finance and Controller. The successful candidate will join a dynamic management team that seeks to build on the University’s 158 year history as a major institution of higher education in the state of New Jersey and beyond.
Reporting to the Vice President – Administration and Finance, the Associate Vice President will provide leadership and oversight for all of the University’s accounting systems, processes and operations, and the Office of Student Accounts. The Associate Vice President will supervise general, grant, Foundation, plant and student accounting functions, as well as accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury and risk management. Additionally, this key leadership position will develop, review, and implement financial policies, procedures, controls and systems, oversee the direction and management of all accounting functions, manage external audits and related engagements, and formulate, prepare and analyze financial statements and reports.

This is a 12 month administrative appointment. Requirements for the position include a minimum of twelve years of progressively responsible experience in financial management areas, with at least eight years of relevant combined experience at a public or private college or university and/or non-profit organization. Direct experience with audits in the higher education or non-profit environment and higher education or non-profit financial management is preferred. Extensive knowledge of PC-based financial and other applications is essential, as is a working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems, with preference given to knowledge of Microsoft and Ellucian’s Banner products. This position requires well-developed management skills, sound administrative skills, the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff, and excellent written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate must be a CPA. Educational requirements include an undergraduate degree in business; a MBA or a Master’s degree in Accounting is preferred.
Salary is commensurate with expertise and experience. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package including tuition waiver for dependent children after one year of full-time employment.
