Dean, College of Business and Economics

Title: Dean, College of Business and Economics

  • Reference #: N09846
  • Employer: Radford University
  • Website:
  • Location: Radford, VA 24142
  • Job Description:

Radford University’s College of Business and Economics (COBE) seeks a dean to lead its student body of 1350, a graduate student cadre of 90, and a full-time faculty of 47 to new levels of achievement and recognition.

Now occupying a new, $45 million state-of-the-art facility at the front entrance of the university’s beautiful campus on the New River in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, COBE is poised at the start of a new era and seeks a leader to galvanize the college and its community around a compelling vision for the future.

The opportunities for success for the college and its dean abound.  The university is committing to enhancing its international profile across the board.  There is tremendous potential for garnering philanthropic support from a growing and increasingly successful alumni body and for developing symbiotic corporate partnerships.  Recently reaccredited by AACSB and with a newly adopted mission to provide an active learning environment that develops analytical and innovative business professionals for a dynamic global economy, the college’s faculty is cohesive in its commitment to both student success and scholarly attainment.  In short, the opportunity to “move the needle” at Radford is apparent and the potential considerable.

Addressing that potential will require a dean of considerable experience and skill both internally and externally.  A strong leader and manager of people and programs is absolutely required, and a track record of successful engagement with external constituencies – especially in terms of both corporate partnerships and individual philanthropy – is highly desirable.  The COBE’s new dean will report to Radford’s provost and will work in close concert with a group of senior academic administrators who are exceptionally dedicated to the university’s and to each other’s success.  Radford’s deans are more-than-usually collaborative and mutually supportive, and with their guidance and support the whole of the institution exceeds the sum of its considerable parts.

Radford and the COBE are on the move.  This is an exceptional opportunity for a leader to have a profound, even historical, impact on this institution.
