CALL FOR PAPERS Special Issue of Journal of Corporate Finance “Corporate Governance in China” OVERVIEW: China will soon become the world’s largest economy. And yet, we know very little about corporate governance practices in mainland China. China is widely known for having controlling shareholders, and high levels of state ownership. But as China transitions from a planned economy to a market economy, investor confidence will play a critical role. Moreover, corporate governance regulations and practices in China are changing rapidly. What are current corporate governance practices in China? Does corporate governance have an effect on firm performance in China? What determines a firm’s internal governance practices? How are various governance mechanisms in China related to one another? How does regulation affect corporate governance practices? The purpose of this special issue is to improve our understanding of these issues.
